Throughout the game, your heroes will succumb to different status effects and will test your party's ability to control the damage. The following is a reference table that describes the type of effects that exist in the game. Clicking on their names or pictures will provide more detail on their effects. Every effect has an expiration and wears off over time. Furthermore, they are broken down into four types:
- negative status effects → Debuffs
- positive status effects → Buffs
- effects that are neither buffs nor debuffs → Effects
- and last but not least → Immunities
(follow the links for a overview of all effects of that type)
Debuffs are typically applied by the opposing team and can be Cleansed by Healers, while Buffs are usually applied by the ally team and can be Purged (removed) or stolen by enemies with Buff Stealing abilities or caster runes. Buffs and debuffs are indicated by a little icon on top of the health bar.
The type Effects lists all status effects that are neither a buff nor a debuff, like Stoned, or effects that occur instantly, such as Heal, Purge or Unhealable Damage. These effects have no icon on top of the health bar but usually a short effect animation.
Immunities protect against debuffs with a very few exceptions like Doom.
Some buffs and debuffs stack. For example Rage and Venom, see category Stack for more. A number on the icon displays the current number of stacks. Purge resets the stack to 0, while Cleanse removes the whole stack.

Mark is a group of various debuffs that mark a target. The mark usually multiplies the damage dealt against that target. All heroes and enemies in the game have a small chance to resist the mark, but a few heroes like Solaris are completely immune to it.
