Chaos Damage is an exotic type of Damage. It bypasses all immunities like shields, magic protection and normal Damage Reduction. Chaos Damage can only be mitigated by Chaos Damage Reduction.

Another special characteristic of Chaos Damage is that Rune.png Tainted Runes convert a certain percentage of the damage dealt into additional Chaos Damage. However, if no base damage is dealt because the attack was blocked or was not Shield-piercing, then no additional Chaos Damage is caused by Tainted Runes.

The additional damage from Chaos Damage can render shield Buffs and Abilities like Unbreakable Heart Icon.png Unbreakable Heart and Ethereal Icon.png Ethereal Spirit useless. The additional Chaos Damage will bypass the shield and reduce the remaining health of the attacked target and it will die.

Chaos Damage is very common in the Age of Chaos Mode Icon.png Age of Chaos dungeons and there are a few debuffs like Chaosfire Icon.png Chaosfire (Chaos Burn) and Chaos Bite Icon.png Chaos' Bite that deal Chaos Damage over time.

Heroes

The following heroes have or can inflict/apply Chaos Damage:

Draconic Heirloom Icon.png Draconic Heirloom (Trait): At the end of the allied round, this Hero makes a passive Ranged Chaos attack on all enemies. Enemies who have the Doom debuff receive 50% more damage. This effect continues after the Hero’s death, as long as their corpse is on the battlefield.
Chaos Missile Icon.png Chaos Missile (Basic Attack): Basic Ranged Chaos attack on a single target. Chaos Damage is shield and armor-piercing and it cannot be dodged or parried. It ignores the five Elemental Resistances as well as Damage Reduction. But never scores a CRIT.
Draconic Heirloom Icon.png Epic Draconic Heirloom (Trait): At the end of the round, this Hero makes an even more damaging ranged Chaos attack on all enemies. Enemies who have the Doom debuff receive 50% more damage. This effect continues after the Hero's death, as long as their corpse is on the battlefield. (This trait replaces the trait 'Draconic Heirloom' when the Epic is unlocked.)

Forgotten Might Icon.png Epic Forgotten Might (Trait): All allies gain +25% Damage Penetration. Dwarves gain 10% Chaos Damage. (This trait replaces 'Forgotten Might' when the Epic is unlocked.)

Toady Toadstools Icon.png Toady Toadstools (Trait): When on a team with Cruel King Bramble, Goblins deal an additional 10% total Chaos Damage.

Frostborn Icon.png Epic Frostborn (Trait): This hero stores power over 3 turns. When fully charged (3 stacks), this hero resurrects at the end of the round, exploding and dealing AoE Chaos Damage to all enemies on death. Cleanses Doom from all allies and applies Chaos Day to all allies when resurrecting.

Chaos Born Icon.png Chaos Apprentice (Trait): When in a team with Alrakis, this Hero deals [10%/15%] of damage as extra chaos damage.

Epic Heroes with Chaos Damage:

Frozen Staff.png Frozen Staff (Epic): Chance to do two basic Ranged Chaos attacks on the target and a random enemy. Attacks apply Chaos Burn. If an enemy is killed, Chaos Burn is applied to all remaining enemies.
